The Movement at Lehigh University

We are a student-led group working to promote diversity, acceptance, and understanding within the Lehigh community. Our goal is to create an environment where all students, faculty, and staff can feel welcome to express their individuality in a safe community atmosphere.

I'm not entirely sure how a walk out will help bring diversity to Lehigh. I understand it may bring awareness to issues that the campus tends to gloss over. The real problem, however, Lehigh faces is not being able to attract enough minorities. How can Lehigh better achieve this goal? That's the real question and that's what this group should be considering. What concrete actions can Lehigh take to get more students here.

In response to Patrick Thornton – Since the creation of The Movement, members have been meeting in smaller committees that focus on working through diversity issues concerning social, academic and financial aspects of Lehigh. The financial committee has explored issues concerning admissions, acceptance, attendance and financial aid at Lehigh. We are currently working on ways to address/improve these aspects of Lehigh; however, our main focus at this moment is increasing awareness. Increasing awareness is only a starting point; the intentions of The Movement go above and way beyond awareness. The Movement will not stop until there is change.

As a member of the financial committee, I urge you to join us in exploring ways to attract minorities to Lehigh.

If anyone would like information regarding when and where these committees meet feel free to e-mail me at mrb6@lehigh.edu.
